The beginning of the Mormon Battalion parade
in old Town. What a beautiful day we had for
it, and big crowd. The Mayor of San Diego
declared January 31 to be the Official day
for Old Town.
All the Missionaries in San Diego, marched as
Mormon Battalion Soldiers, they had a great
time doing it. They shot off the cannon, and
every hour they had the children parade
the area in their pioneer costumes.
Part of the program was the group that walked the
Mormon Battalion trail just recently and ended up
here in San Diego in time for the Commemoration
Nancy and I setting up our booth, we got
down here at Old Town at 9 a m, I mixed
my scone batch last night, Nancy did hers

Families came dressed as Pioneers would be,
it was really a good family outing day, the
weather was nice summer weather 75 degrees.
They had these home made stilts for the kids
to try out. I remember my brothers making
them when I was a kid. There were all kind os
booths, brick making, quiltingbiscuits on end of
stick, butter making, booth to find if you were
related to any of the Battalion members. they had
a dutch overn bake off going on. Doll making, gun
display, kids pioneer toys and manys.

socks to dry, so they wouldn't shrink.

This fellow decided he wanted to
see exactly where the Mormon
Battalion march really went, so
he and his wife and some other
friends decided to follow it. they
walked all the way. It took them
walked all the way. It took them
8 months to make the trek.
Randie came by on his bicycle, he
was riding it in the area, so he
stopped by for a scone or two. I
took him over to meet the man
above, he and his wife were on
the Mormon Battalion trail, for
the passed 8 months. People
joined them at different times
on the trail. They had quite adventure.

Marcia and her friend Julie came by to get a
scone, they had been to the booth, where they
made little pioneer dolls. They came early and
was there for the parade and program.
We sprinkled a mixture of sugar and cinnamon
over them while they were hot out of the hot oil
